This book was one of the most amazing books i have read yet. The setting and atmosphere adds to the whole plot of the book in a really amazing way. Every character had their own original personalities that I felt were very well described. I personally fell in love with Patrick. I grew more and more attached to his character and had an overwhelming passion for his parts of the story. This book gets 5 starts from me and will forever be one of my favorites, along with practically every other book i read.

On reading, writing and a bunch of other stuff

Greetings,

My name is Josh Wagner, (author name J. R. Wagner sounds author-esque, don’t you think?) anyway, in less than two weeks, I will be speaking at the Downingtown Library.

Why, you ask? Well, I am the author of Exiled, a young adult fantasy novel releasing June 5th. I have been through the writing, editing, publishing, marketing washing machine and am excited to share some of my experiences with the process.

The library is located inside this beautiful historic building right in the heart of Downingtown. They run loads of great programs all year round for readers of all ages. Don’t be fooled by its commonplace appearance, they’re really on the ball when it comes to community offerings.

So, if you’re interested, here is a short list of topics I may discuss (depending on time and interest -I can empathize with the attention span of the typical teen because it is quite similar to my own)

Since the group is teens, I plan on discussing a bit about my book, the how-to’s of publishing, publishing in the digital market (peripherally depending on interest), current popular titles (The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner etc.), maybe a bit about blogging and social media depending on responsiveness, teen literacy and what can be done to help others who struggle with reading and writing, maybe a bit on peer critiquing, websites for Teen writers and readers. I’ll have a power-point presentation to keep it visual and some games and prizes as well.

If anyone has any suggestions or topics they’d like to hear, comment away! I always appreciate input.

Calling All Teens

On Wednesday September 29th we will be decorating the children’s section of the Downingtown library. Let me know if you will be able to come and try to bring a friend. The more people we have the better the decorations will be.

The teens meet every Wednesday from 6:30 until 7:30 and socialize while doing something creative and fun.

On Wednesday October 2nd we will review books and make suggestions on which books to purchase for the library. You read the books so help make the selections that you would like to have available. Come and help make Downingtown Library your library.

YOUNG SAMURAI SERIES

Looking for adventure this summer? Try reading The Young Samurai series by Chris Bradford. The first two books are The Way of the Warrior and The Way of the Sword. The third book, The Way of the Dragon is due out in 2011. It is an action-adventure series with something for everyone.

After his father and crew are killed by ninja pirates, Jack, a young English boy, is left stranded and orphaned in 17th century Japan. He is adopted as a son by the legendary sword master Masamoto Takeshi, who takes him to his martial arts school. There Jack begins his training to become a samurai warrior. The training is difficult and lengthy and Jack must face many tests to become a samurai. Along the way he has the support of some good friends but he is hated by others because he is gaijin (a foreigner and outsider). Also he is pursued by Dragon Eye, the deadly ninja who killed his father.

While you are reading you will learn about all types of martial arts training, Japanese culture, language and ancient rituals, friendship and prejudice and honor. I love these books. Let me know what you think!

(By the way, Chris Bradford is a British author. In the UK he has already published five Young Samurai Books – those listed above and The Ring of Earth and The Way of Fire. Look for them if you are lucky enough to visit the UK this summer!)

Are you ready for the future? Reading will prepare you. Science fiction develops thinking outside the box to solve problems…like oil spills and clean energy. Love reading historical novels? Hopefully we can learn from the mistakes that have already been made. Romance…what a girl really wants to hear. Vampires? Zombies? It doesn’t hurt to know how to protect yourself, you never know when you’ll run into one.
